"Bound To Change"
By Jennifer Funshine
Just a butterfly tangled in the leaves
Outside my bedroom window pane
A storm is approaching
My gentle hands clutch onto this fluffy teddy bear
like a second life
And clouds paint my face another shade of gray
When I blink away the light in my eyes
Would it change your mind?
To feel as sad as me
Watching that poor butterfly succumb to shadow
and stream
The shell of my deepest complacency holds me back
I am a ballerina in most of these dreams
But I never learned to dance...
So I write
From the heart beat beneath this feminine soul
Some may wish to correct me, or leave me on my own
It's alright, because I'll take any type of love
That can bring a smile to this sentimental gaze
So close my eyes tight pretty please, something tells me
Things are bound to change.
Just a rainbow kite caught along the breeze
Blossoming blue skies stretched out
As far as my tired eyes could see
My sleepy head senses this memory was never
truly mine
Pessimistic pieces of childhood simplicities
Lost to the downward spiral of time
But if it's alright
Could you paint a picture with me?
I promise not to color outside of the lines
Society has deemed
A misuse of creative freedom, whatever that means
I'm just going to paint the best that I can
And avoid getting my baby dress messy...
While we're outside
Where crisp flower beds continue to grow
Some holding promises of happiness, I hope
Dressed in white, I'll take any type of love
That can bring a smile to this sentimental gaze
So close my eyes tight pretty please, something tells me
Things are bound to change.
